I asked a ton of contractors what their favorite apps are.
As a residential contractor, you already know there are an endless number of tools you need on the job site. But remember to keep your virtual toolbox well stocked too.
I’ve boiled my research down to these 21 apps.

- TripLog—TripLog keeps track of mileage so you don’t have to—a big help when it’s time to file your business related taxes.

- Evernote—Evernote lets you enter in anything you need to keep track of into any device. Put a brief note, sound recording, or picture into your smartphone—and retrieve it later on your synced laptop.
- Pinterest—Pinterest isn’t just for craft ideas and recipes. In fact, it’s one of the leading social media platforms to advertise your construction business on.
- Tiny Scanner—On the jobsite, you don’t always have access to a scanner for receipts, reports, documents, etc. Fortunately this app can turn your android device into a portable document scanner that scans everything as images or PDFs.

- Instagram—Another social media giant, this picture sharing site is the ideal spot to show off your company’s most successful projects.
- Twitter—Twitter is loaded with expert construction business commentary on everything from residential building to the global economy. Tweet well, and become part of that expert commentary yourself.
- Google Calendar—Post a work schedule for your entire crew to see on Google’s handy, multi-platform calendar app.
- Carpenters Helper Lite—This highly advanced, stylish contractor app will make short work of your project.

- Pitch Gauge—With multiple ways to calculate any roof’s total size and slope, Pitch Gauge is certain to come in handy for any contractor.
- Google Maps—Find your way to your suppliers—or anywhere else—with the help of this popular app.
- Office Lens—This is another handy app for scanning any paper document on the go and making it into a PDF, Microsoft word, or PowerPoint document.

- Google Calculator—With 29 functions for basic arithmetic, algebra, trigonometry and discrete math, you want Google’s Calculator handy so you aren’t solving complex contractor problems “in your head.”
- Google Search—There’s a reason that this company’s name has become synonymous with “internet search.” If there is any job info you need, Google can find it for you—all you have to do is say “Okay Google.”
- Word—For coming up with construction forms and reports, nothing beats this classic.
- Color Note—From taking quick notes, to creating a project checklist on the fly, to scheduling an appointment (all with a handy auto save feature) Color Note is like having a notepad in your pocket—but upgraded.

- Excel—Staying organized on the job site is essential. With multiple templates that are ideal for any contractor project, Excel can help you handle this.
- Joist (estimator)—Joist allows you to construct estimates and invoices in a fraction of the time by allowing you to pick from your list of commonly used materials and labor rates. It is a sweet little contractor app.
- Quick Books Online—Accounting is yet another aspect of the contracting industry that it pays to have the right tool for. With the ability to access reports from multiple devices, Quick Books Online is that tool. Most of the contractors I interviewed mentioned this one.
- Co-Construct—Build your specs and selections while simultaneously creating your estimate so you can take on new projects that much quicker.

- Smartphone Camera—You might not think much about its usefulness on the jobsite, but your camera on your cellphone is meant for more than just selfies. It can transform into a go-to tool for monitoring, documenting, and promoting your construction project.
- Time Recorder—With the ability to produce detailed reports and keep track of hourly rates, this contractor app goes way beyond helping employees punch in and out when they forget their time badge on the job site.
